As Kelly and Lizzie honeymooned in the French countryside in the mid-nineties, they enjoyed dégustations in French wine houses and dreamed of owning a vineyard at some point in their lives. The rustic European hospitality stuck with them as Kelly’s aspirations to make wine grew.
Little did they know that 25 years later, they would quit their traditional jobs in the college education and designer-builder fields in Texas and make California their home. In 2021, they pursued their dream of farming grapes and making Zinfandel at their 5-acre old vine vineyard in Dry Creek Valley.
In Fall of 2023, Kelly handcrafted a batch of 100 cases of Reserve Zinfandel and oversaw the production of 550 additional cases. His first ever 2022 Zinfandel Port won Silver at the 2024 Alameda County Fair.
Though their Dry Creek Valley home is in its early stages of conception, any travelers wandering to Terra Amata Vineyards might find themselves invited for an impromptu tasting of Zinfandel, labeled into crystal glasses and sipped overlooking the rolling hills of Sonoma.
When Kelly and Lizzie aren’t tending to their vines and olive trees, they enjoy skiing and hiking with their faithful dog, Indie, in Tahoe.
