As Kelly and Lizzie honeymooned in the French countryside in the mid-nineties, they enjoyed dégustations in French wine houses and dreamed of owning a vineyard at some point in their lives. The rustic European hospitality stuck with them as Kelly’s aspirations to make wine grew.
Little did they know that 25 years later, they would quit their traditional jobs in the college education and designer-builder fields in Texas and make California their home. In 2021, they pursued their dream of farming grapes and making Zinfandel at their 5-acre old vine vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. Now, the whole family is involved, tending to the land, running marketing, representing the winery at events, and pitching in to help the mastermind: Kelly.
In Fall of 2023, Kelly handcrafted a batch of 100 cases of Reserve Zinfandel and oversaw the production of 550 additional cases. He then experimented with a Rosé of Zinfandel in 2024, which has collected several accolades including Best of Class at the SF Chronicle Wine Competition. In 2026, Terra Amata is releasing two 2025 Rosés, two 2024 Zinfandels, and a 2024 Petite Sirah.
Though their Dry Creek Valley home is in its early stages of conception, any travelers wandering to Terra Amata Vineyards might find themselves invited for an impromptu tasting of wine, poured into crystal glasses and sipped overlooking the rolling hills of Sonoma.
When Kelly and Lizzie aren’t tending to their vines and olive trees, they enjoy skiing and hiking with their faithful dog, Indie, in Tahoe.

OUR METHODOLOGY
Terra Amata Vineyards’ five acres of Old Vine Zinfandel vines are rooted on the East Bench of Dry Creek Valley, a region renowned for its Zinfandel terroir. As a boutique winery producing less than 800 cases per year, Terra Amata is focused on sustainability, organic farming, and quality. At the heart of everything we do is a deep commitment to stewarding our beloved earth. We produce just enough to pour our hearts into every bottle, and we are hands-on every step of the way from pruning to cultivation to winemaking to bottling. The result is delicious Zinfandels that you can feel good about sharing.
